From the Distiller
We are delighted to bring you our first scratch distilled Cornish spiced rum. This molasses-based premium spiced rum is fermented and distilled in the distillery at Norton Barton Artisan Food Village. Morvenna Spiced Rum is drier and more refined than a standard spiced rum, it is botanically driven with hints of lemongrass, apricot and saffron.
It’s personal preference whether you like to sip your rum on the rocks or prefer a long drink. Try with lots of ice, mixed with coke & lime – just don’t drown it!
The Cornish Distilling Co.
Husband and wife, Richard & Fionagh Harding had plans to expand their Artisan Food Village business by distilling on-site. They met Tom Read – a local with a PhD in biochemistry, barista skills and a keen interest in cocktails and spirits – and a collaboration was formed. They began experimenting with molasses to make their own rum from scratch, which although time consuming, affords them more control over the final flavour. It is also quite rare to find a completely British made rum, giving their product a unique selling point.
In September 2007 their first product – Kalkar Coffee Rum – was ready to release. Since then Head Distiller, Tom, has continued to ferment molasses from sugar cane on-site and experimented with ingredients to add Morvenna Spiced Rum and Morvenna White Rum to the collection.
