Burning Barn Smoked Rum, 40% ABV

Burning Barn, Warwickshire

A really unique flavour that needs to be tasted to be appreciated! When tried neat it has a very intense smoky flavour reminiscent of a peated whisky but once mixed into a long drink it’s a smooth full flavoured rum with a twist.

Our Insights

We describe this as a hybrid between a peated whisky, a bourbon and a rum. If you are partial to any of those this stands a rather good chance of being the drink for you. Completely unique, inspired by a great story, and some of our staffs favourite from the darker spirits range.

From the Distiller

First, you’ll notice its intense smokiness. Then, you’re going to get hints of apple, molasses and burnt treacle. The nose is punchy, but its beguilingly smooth, leaving a light, luscious coating on your mouth.

Perfect serve

We suggest trying on the rocks for a full appreciation of the intense smokiness, and then compare the taste following the addition of a good quality coke and a squeeze of lime to decide whether you prefer the more mellow flavour.

Burning Barn

Hampton-in-Arden, Warwickshire

In September 2015, tragedy struck the Jenner family farm when their barn, and family business, was ravaged by fire. Motivated by their family’s determination in the face of adversity and inspired by the fire itself, husband and wife – Harry & Katherine – realised their dream and began to rebuild the barn and start their own craft drinks business.

They created the UK’s first, and only, smoked rum using a blend of Caribbean rums cold smoked with apple wood from the orchard planted by Harry’s father 30 years ago. At the time the fire was a disaster, however, it enabled Katherine & Harry to follow a new path with a new determination. Three years later, they have created an expanding range of unique rums with flavours inspired by the heat of the fire.
